Small N Kali or Kelei
The n kali is a percussion instrument also known as kilii (Mende), kelei (Mende), keina (Loko) and more generically as a slit-log drum. It is made from a hollow log, cane or piece of bamboo, with lengthwise slits. There is much variety in size and detail. This is a particularly small example. It was one of two originally collected from central Kuranko country, in form of a human figure. The drum is said to have been used in connection with the Kpangba Society.
