Ethnomusicological sound recording made by Cootje van Oven. Mende song, accompanied by two gita and performed by an all male group as pictured in the photograph. The song is a Mohammedan song on the subject of Ramadan. The gita is a rectangular frame drum. Measurements of the bigger one: length 14.5", width 12.5", depth of frame 5.5". The smaller one measured: length 12.5", width 10", depth of frame 3". The bigger one is played with one stick, the smaller one with two.
