Carving of Mami Wata
The Sierra Leone National Museum catalogue notes that this is a carving of Mami Wata, a Mende spirit of the water. The original description reads: She is half human half fish and is found in the sea and river. If she likes a person she can make them fortunate while those she hates she will give misfortune.
