Photographic Print
Black and white photographic print showing the crowning of a king; the king was the chief of Kafu Bullon chiefdom, directly across the Sierra Leone River from Freetown. The Chief’s town was traditionally Yongro, which was where this photograph was taken. A Mamagpara dancer can be seen in the foreground on stilts. This photo is part of a collection from an album put together by William Vivian in 1889; Vivian was a Missionary with the United Methodist Free Churches, and is likely to have taken the photographs himself. This is an albumen print.
