Kono Kamanine solo
Ethnomusicological sound recording made by Cootje van Oven. Kono kamanine solo. The kamanine is an elephant tusk horn (pictured in the photograph). This player wakes the Chief at 5a.m. daily with a horn solo. He never plays together with other instruments. His kamanine is 31" long. It was carved by Samuka in another Jaiama (Nimiyema Chiefdom), who is now dead. The side-blown horn is open at both ends. Pitch variations are obtained by closing and re-opening the narrow end with the thumb of the left hand, but the wide end is also stopped at times with the right hand.
