Gongoli Mask
A large gongoli, or kongoli, mask. The mask is typically roughly carved with course, animal-like features, a large nose and wide mouth. This example has (goat or horse) hair sprouting from its head, eye brows, nose and around its mouth. The gongoli masquerader comes out to provide light entertainment, particularly during more solemn occasions such as funerals. It is not particular to any cultural groups in Sierra Leone.
