Agungun Society Headdress
This is a headdress worn by the masquerader of the Agungun (Egungun) Society. It was originally acquired by the Sierra Leone Museum as part of a complete constume, but only the headdress now survives. Egungun was originally part of the Yoruba pantheon of divinities. It was introduced to Sierra Leone by Liberated African settlers in the 19th century and became part of the Krio culture of the Western Area.
